Bringing Stories to Life: From Set to Screen - Wonderland《乐园》 x Sony
Mocha Chai Laboratories uses FX6 by Sony to bring the award-winning film “Wonderland” to life, calls BRAVIA 9 the TV of choice for the best cinematic experience in the comfort of your home

(SINGAPORE, 5 August 2024) – Sony is proud to announce that the award-winning movie, Wonderland 《乐园》 by Mocha Chai Laboratories was filmed using FX6 by Sony, including the shots in New York City, the official music video, and the behind the scenes. Recently awarded the Local Jury Award at the 35th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, this film features veteran Singapore actors Mark Lee and Peter Yu and encapsulates deep bonds of friendship, fatherhood and the American dream, bringing the riveting 1980s scenes to life via Sony’s pioneer technology capabilities, which supported the production of the film.
From Lens to Living Room
The poignant and heartwarming scenes bear director Chai Yee Wei’s message of hope amidst trying situations. With its scenes in faraway New York shot exclusively with the FX6 by Sony, the film leant heavily on the camera to both capture and convey its essence beyond the cinema experience.
Following the huge success of the film, Sony and Mocha Chai Laboratories collaborated to produce the film’s music video sung by Joi Chua. The film underwent meticulous colour grading on the renowned Sony BVM-X300 reference monitor, known for its ability to achieve the brightest highlights and deepest blacks. To ensure the accuracy of this grade for consumer viewing, a consumer-grade TV was used in the grading suite to simulate home viewing experiences. After testing, the production crew determined that the BRAVIA 9, which is equipped with advanced backlight technology that controls thousands of LEDs precisely for truly authentic contrast, is the best option for output similar to professional master monitors.
Sony’s BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 was selected as the optimal choice to complement the film’s sound mix, which was executed to the highest standards using Dolby Atmos for theatrical quality. The BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9, with its 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, delivered exceptional surround sound by creating phantom speakers. When paired with the BRAVIA 9, featuring Acoustic Center Sync, the TV itself acted as a center speaker, effortlessly recreating an immersive cinema experience at home.
To Yee Wei, it was important that the creative intent and nuanced emotion behind each scene of friendship and sacrifice was wholly communicated to his audience. He said, “I am so grateful that these technologies in the BRAVIA 9 and BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 exist, so when the film is released to the consumer platforms, people will get to enjoy my film at its highest standards, in the comforts of their home. With the new BRAVIA 2024 TV and Soundbar line up, I am excited to say Cinema truly comes home.”
