Sony now provides a firmware update file to upgrade the DPP-FP55 digital photo printer to support the SDHC* Memory Card.
This firmware upgrade allows you to use the DPP-FP55 digital photo printer to read and print an image of the SDHC Memory Card.
*SDHC(SD High Capacity) card is the new SD memory card based on the SDA 2.00 specification, introduced by the SD Card Association. This new SDA 2.00 specification enables SD cards to reach higher capacities - over 2GB.

Applicable Models:
Sony DPP-FP55 digital photo printers with the following serial numbers: 1000001 ~ 2000000
Supported Operating Systems:
- Windows® XP Professional
- Windows® XP Home Edition
- Windows® 2000 Professional
- Windows® Millennium Edition
Operating conditions:
- The computer should be equipped with either a "Memory Stick" slot or an SD card slot, or a USB port.
- The RAM should be 32 MB or more.
- Available hard disk space should be 5 MB or more.
Other items to be prepared:
- Memory Stick or SD card formatted with the digital camera.
- A digital camera
If the computer is not equipped with either a Memory Stick slot or an SD card slot, please prepare the USB cable supplied with the digital camera to be used.

Note:
- During the update, please ensure that the printer and the AC adaptor are placed in a stable location so that the AC adaptor may not be removed and the printer is not turned off. If the power runs out during the update, the printer may be inoperable.
- Do not use this firmware to update any other models.
- It is highly recommended to print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.
Install
Details
- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs.
- Download the DPP55V2.exe [ File size 2.08 MB (2,186,817bytes) ] to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the DPP55V2.exe file to extract it.
- DPP55V2.vup should be created by extracting the file.
*Depending on the operating system settings, the file may be automatically extracted when it is downloaded. - Please follow the steps below to update the Digital Photo Printer DPP-FP55 firmware.
1. Prepare the recording medium
This section explains how to update the printer by using a Memory Stick. When you use an SD card, please replace Memory Stick with SD card in the explanations.
Prepare the Memory Stick you have formatted with the digital camera you are using.
Note:
- Use a Memory Stick formatted with the DPP-FP55 or the digital camera you are using.
- An SD memory card cannot be formatted with the DPP-FP55. Use an SD card formatted with the digital camera you are using.
- Depending on the formatting system, the DPP-FP55 may not recognize a memory card formatted with a computer. Use of such a card is not recommended. If you should use a memory card formatted with a computer, copy a JPEG image file onto the card and make sure that the DPP-FP55 can display and print the image before you use the card.
- Please note that all data including even protected images will be erased by formatting and cannot be restored.
2. Copy the firmware update file to the recording medium.
Copy the firmware update file to the recording medium with either of the following methods, depending on your computer environment.
If your PC is equipped with a "Memory Stick" slot
- Insert a Memory Stick formatted with your digital camera into the Memory Stick slot of your computer.
- Copy the firmware update file onto the Memory Stick.
Do not create a folder. Copy the DPP55V2.vup file into the root directory.
If your PC is not equipped with a "Memory Stick" slot
- Insert a Memory Stick formatted with your digital camera into the Memory Stick slot of your digital camera.
- Connect the computer and the digital camera with a USB cable.
- Copy the firmware update file onto the Memory Stick of the digital camera.
Do not create a folder. Copy the DPP55V2.vup file into the root directory.
Note:
- For how to connect the digital camera to the computer or how to copy the file onto the Memory Stick, see the operating instructions of your digital camera.
3. Update the firmware of your printer
- While pressing and holding MENU, press the
(on-standby) switch to turn on the printer.
Note : Press and hold MENU until a display appears on the LCD screen of the printer. - Press MENU again to display the MENU, press
/
to select the Option icon, then press ENTER.
Pressto move the cursor to Updating the firmware and check to see that the version number displayed on the right is 1.
- If Updating the firmware is not displayed, turn the power off and then on again to redo the operations from step 1.
- If 2 is displayed as the version, you do not need to update the firmware. Turn off the power. - Select Updating the firmware and press ENTER.
- If the update confirmation dialog is displayed, press
/
to select OK and press ENTER.
- Insert the Memory Stick storing the firmware update file into the Memory Stick slot of the printer and press ENTER.
Note:
- If the "No update file found. " error message is displayed:
Cause: No update file was found on the Memory Stick.
Remedies: Check the contents of the Memory Stick with your computer and redo the procedures in "3 Update the firmware of your printer" from the beginning.
- If the "Incorrect update file." error message is displayed:
Cause: An incorrect update file was found on the Memory Stick. (The version of the file is the same as the current one, or older.)
Remedies: Check the current version and redo the procedures in "3 Update the firmware of your printer" from the beginning. - If the updated version dialog is displayed, check to see that the updated version is correct, and then press ENTER.
- As the firmware update starts, the LCD screen shows the updating display where circle signs will light one by one. When all four circle signs are lit, the update is finished. It will take about three minutes to finish updating.
During operating this step, make sure that the printer and the AC adaptor are placed in a stable location so that the AC adaptor may not be removed and the printer is not turned off. If the power runs out during the update, the printer may be inoperable. - If the following Completed dialog is displayed on the LCD screen, turn off the printer.
Note:
If the "Update failed." error message is displayed, the update may not have been successful.
Remedies: Turn off the printer and redo the procedures in the "Download Instructions " from the beginning. If the printer becomes inoperable, contact the dealer where you purchased the printer or consult the local authorized Sony service facility.
4. Check the firmware version after updating
- While pressing and holding MENU, press the
switch to turn on the printer. Note: Press and hold MENU until a display appears on the LCD screen of the printer.
- Press MENU again to display the MENU, press
/
to select the Option icon, then press ENTER. Press
to move the cursor to Updating the firmware and check to see that the version number displayed on the right has been updated.
- Turn off the printer.
The installation of the DIGITAL PHOTO PRINTER DPP-FP55 Firmware Update is now complete.
