What Does This Do?
Sony has designed the Personal Content Station™ system software update process to be customer friendly. This update (version 19R1) provides the following benefits:
- A photo can be rotated 90 degrees (left or right) to change its orientation
- Adds the capability to edit the dates of photos and videos
- Video playback can be resumed from the point where playback on your smartphone or tablet was switched to HDMI® output or vice versa.
- If your smartphone/tablet is not wirelessly connected to the Personal Content Station, One-touch backup first tries to establish a Wi-Fi® connection that was last used to communicate with the Personal Content Station
- The stored images are displayed by most recent date after sign-in
- Provides support for photos and videos to be shared via the Personal Content Station™ to apps on your smartphone or tablet
- Includes other functional improvments

Important Notes
- WARNING!! Do not power off the Personal Content Station or disconnect it from the AC power outlet. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the Personal Content Station to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- IMPORTANT!! Before updating the Personal Content Station, set up a wireless LAN connection between the Personal Content Station and your wireless LAN router to connect the Personal Content Station to the Internet.
Note: If you receive the message "PCS may not be connected to the network", please ensure that your Personal Content Station is properly connected to your wireless LAN. - This function cannot be used when signing in to the Personal Content Station in "Read-Only Access" mode.
- If the update fails, the illumination LED starts blinking red or an error message is displayed on PCS Manager. If this happens, turn off the Personal Content Station and turn it on again.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Details
Updating the system software via the Internet (Android) Go to Table of Contents
You can update the system software of the Personal Content Station via the Internet. Before updating the Personal Content Station, set up a wireless LAN connection between the Personal Content Station and your wireless LAN router to connect the Personal Content Station to the Internet.
WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the Personal Content Station to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- Power on the Personal Content Station.
- Open the PCS Manager app, tap the
icon, and then tap "Settings".
Note: Theicon may not be displayed on the screen of some Android devices. If the
icon is not displayed on your screen, press the main menu button located outside of the screen on your phone, and then tap "Setting".
- Tap "Information".
- Tap "Update System Software".
- At the "Update System Software Screen", tap "Network".
Note: The Personal Content Station checks whether the system software is the latest version or not. If your system software is the latest version, "No new update software found." will appear to indicate no update is necessary. - If "A new system software update is available." appears, tap "OK".
- The Personal Content Station starts to download the latest system software. After the download is complete, the update process begins.
Note: - When the update process is complete, "Sign in after rebooting the system." appears on the Personal Content Station.
- Power on the Personal Content Station.
- Tap "OK".
- The update process is complete.
Updating the system software via the Internet (iOS) Go to Table of Contents
You can update the system software of the Personal Content Station via the Internet. Before updating the Personal Content Station, set up a wireless LAN connection between the Personal Content Station and your wireless LAN router to connect the Personal Content Station to the Internet.
WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the Personal Content Station to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- Open the PCS Manager app, tap the
icon, and then tap "Settings".
- Tap "Information".
- Tap "PCS system upgrade".
- Tap "Network".
Note: The Personal Content Station checks whether the system software is the latest version or not. If your system software is the latest version, "No new update software found." will appear to indicate no update is necessary. - If "A new system software update is available." appears, tap "Start update".
- Read the note regarding the system software update, then tap "Continue".
Note: The Personal Content Station starts to download the latest system software. After the download is complete, the update process begins. - After the update process is complete, the Personal Content Station will automatically power off.
- Power on the Personal Content Station.
- The update process is complete.
Updating the system software using a memory card (Android) Go to Table of Contents
You can use a computer to download the latest system software, then store it to a memory card to update the system software of the Personal Content Station. A memory card and a computer connected to the Internet are required.
WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the Personal Content Station to be unresponsive or to require repair.
- Download the SODV8U16.DS5 file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the SODV8U16.DS5 file is 38,805,556 bytes.
- Connect a memory card to the computer to copy the system software it.
- Disconnect the memory card and insert it in the Personal Content Station
- Open the PCS Manager app, tap the
icon, and then tap "Settings".

- Tap "Information".
- Tap "Update System Software".
- At the "Update System Software" screen, tap "Memory card".

Tap "OK" to complete. - If "A new system software update is available." appears, tap "Yes".
- The update process begins.
- After the update process is complete, "Sign in after rebooting the system." appears.
- Power on the Personal Content Station.
- Tap "OK"
- The update process is complete.
