How to reset the Android TV™ to factory settings

IMPORTANT: This solution applies to Android TVs. For BRAVIA TVs other than Android TVs, refer to: How to reset the television to the original factory settings.

WARNING: The Factory data reset will clear all of your customized settings including the parental lock setting and followings, and the TV will return to how it was at the time of purchase.

  • Google Account 
  • System & Applications data
  • Downloaded Applications
  • Channels
  • Wireless network settings

NOTE:

  • First try performing a Power Reset if you have not done so already. A Power Reset does not usually reset settings such as those mentioned above to factory settings.
  • Some of application's data might be recovered if Apps synced with your Google account. (Except for CN)
    • Android™ 6.0 Marshmallow:
      HOME > Settings > Personal > Google > Select Choose synced apps in Sync > select items which sync with account > Sync now
    • Android 7.0 Nougat, Android 8.0 Oreo™:
      HOME > Settings > Google > Select Choose synced apps in Sync > select items which sync with account > Sync now
  • The factory reset may take a few moments. Please wait until you are informed that the process has been completed.
  • After the Factory Reset process completes successfully, your TV proceeds into the Initial Setup wizard. You will need to agree to the Google Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
  • If you use Touchpad remote control, the pairing sequence will have to be activated again after a factory reset.

Select the status of your TV below. The operation procedure varies depending on the status of the TV.


If the Home screen can be displayed

NOTE: The display screen may differ depending on the model or OS version.

  1. Turn on the TV.
  2. Press the HOME button on the remote control.
  3. Select  Settings.
  4. Select Storage & reset.
  5. Select Factory data reset.
  6. Select Erase Everything.
    NOTE: If asked to provide a password, enter the password for the Parental lock (Broadcast).
  7. Select Yes.

If the Home screen cannot be displayed (the HOME button on the remote control does not work)

If there is a response when you press the HELP button on the remote control, follow the procedure below.
NOTE: The display screen may differ depending on the model or OS version.

  1. Turn on the TV.
  2. Press the HELP button on the remote control.
  3. Select Help Guide in How to use your TV.
  4. Select Settings.
  5. Select Configuring the TV.
  6. Select TV.
  7. Select   Settings.
  8. Select Storage & reset in the TV category.
  9. Select Factory data reset.
  10. Select Erase Everything.
    NOTE: If asked to provide a password, enter the password for the Parental lock (Broadcast).
  11. Select Yes.
