VAIO Y Series

(Singapore, 21 January 2011) – Sony South East Asia announced today that they will expand VAIO Y Series, an 11.6 inch slim and compact notebook PC, with new VISION Technology from AMD, in addition to the current Intel® platform. Powered by this new AMD platform, users will enjoy faster and smoother HD content playback on the VAIO Y Series’ 11.6 inch screen with 1366 x 768 high resolution. Stylish and user-friendly, the Y Series also sport the VAIO common design identity and Sony’s signature isolation keyboard, offering users ergonomic comfort while typing out their work. Featuring an ultra lightweight chassis at 1.46kg, the VAIO Y Series is a very handy notebook to easily carry around to suit consumers’ day-to-day computing needs.

Comfortable & smooth HD content playback
While current VAIO Y Series (VPCYA17GG) comes with Intel Core™ i3-380UM Processor, the new VAIO Y Series (VPCYB16KG) features the latest VISION Technology from AMD, combining AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350 with AMD Radeon™ HD 6310 Discrete-Class Graphics. This AMD’s APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) is a single chip that integrates powerful AMD dual-core processor and discrete-class graphics which support Microsoft DirectX® 11. The new platform offers consumers an incredibly vivid and smooth HD experience, including comfortable playback of full HD video and faster Internet operation.

As with the rest of the VAIO family of notebooks, users can easily enjoy the HD contents on larger screen by connecting the VAIO to a monitor or to a TV via HDMI output that is available on the chassis.

Designed for style and usability
Designed to be stylish and user-friendly, the lines of the VAIO Y Series’ profile merge together in a “convergence line” for an attractive tapered look. In addition to Black and Bordeaux for current VPCYA17GG, the stylish VAIO Y Series is now available in Silver, Pink, and Green for VPCYB16KG.

The Isolation keyboard assures users of comfortable, precise typing and is perfectly complemented by an ergonomic touchpad for precision gestural control with Genuine Microsoft Windows® 7 and supported applications. And to further increase the usability, the VAIO Y Series comes with the ASSIST button which offers users instant, one-click access to VAIO Care. A VAIO original software, the application simplifying basic maintenance and troubleshooting tasks to keep the VAIO in pristine condition.

The new VAIO Y Series (VPCYB16KG), with new VISION technology from AMD, will be available at all Sony authorised retailers from end January 2011. Suggested retail price for the new VAIO Y Series is S$899, inclusive of GST.
