Included in the list is Albert Tan Chee Hiang Tan as recipient of the 2019 Singapore National Award.
Part of the prestigious and internationally renowned Sony World Photography Awards, the National Awards program demonstrates Sony’s commitment to supporting local photographic talent by recognising the work of local photographers and promoting it on a global scale.

Tan is a Graphic Designer and Photographer from Singapore. His winning image shows a street vendor with a unique method of displaying his goods. The image was taken in a village in northern India, Albert Tan wanted to capture the emotion and mood of this peddler.
Tan began taking photographs when he was a teenager. His brother was a photography enthusiast and passed on his equipment to him, which influenced Tan to begin his career in the visual arts. Tan aspires to focus primarily on humanity and cultures, and to visually demonstrate candid shots of life, specifically humankind’s “soulful actions and expressions”, as is visible in this winning image. The photographer is a father of two who lives by the statement “Go with your passion, take criticism – that’s the key to help you grow”.
The judges recognised more local talent and awarded Victor Gui 2nd place in the Singapore National Award for the image First Sail, and David Wong 3rd place for Dragon Breath Ice Cream.
