What is 360 Spatial
Sound Mapping
Feel sound from every direction and distance, even beyond the boundaries of your room with Sony's revolutionary 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology.
360 Spatial Sound Mapping uses Sony's original distance measurement technology to calculate the distance
between speakers and from the speakers to the ceiling, before combining it with physical sound field
reproduction technology.
The system uses built-in microphones to measure the relative positions of each speaker and reproduce sound wave fronts from up to 12 “phantom speakers” (simulated sound sources) that are assumed to exist somewhere outside of the physical speakers. As the simulated speakers exist beyond the actual speakers, they can make you feel as if you are in an extremely wide and expansive space that seems to extend beyond the room.

When you add on the SA-RS5 or SA-RS3S Wireless Rear Speakers, you can position them conveniently at the back of your living room for the best listening experience. The A-series soundbar fully immerses you in atmospheric audio like no other and is perfectly in sync with what's playing on your TV and the Soundbar's built-in microphones do it all for you by measuring the position of each speaker, vertically and horizontally, to optimise sound in the space.

Vertical Surround Engine
