    About this download

    For owners of Walkman F880 series, we offer NWZ- F886/F887 system software update program to the latest version 1.23. Please read carefully the following instructions.

    Note: This update utility is not necessary if your Walkman has already been updated to system software version 1.23 by the automatic system software update function.

    Contents of the update
    Improvement from version 1.22 to 1.23:

    • Addressed the issue where the WALKMAN may not properly playback some WAV files.

    This update also includes the update contents of the above target models updated in the past:

    • Improved stability when connecting with some Bluetooth devices.
    • Improves secure communication.
    • DSD file format supported.
    • Addressed the issue where the WALKMAN may not properly playback the playlists transferred from Media Go.
    • Other functional improvements.
    • DSEE HX function is added.
    • Track search function of Music player is added.
    • Other functional improvements.

    NWZ-F880Series (NWZ- F886/F887) that have system software version lower than 1.23.

    How to confirm the Model and the system software version
    Please confirm the Model and the system software version from the steps below.

    • In the Home screen, tap , and then tap  Settings.
    • Tap About device.

    Confirm the Model number and Build number.

    Before Update

    • After updating, the system software cannot be reinstated an earlier version.
    • Please transfer all data from the unit to the computer in advance, since the data may be lost when upgrading as they are remained on the unit. We cannot guarantee in case the tracks and the data are damaged or deleted by this update.
    • When upgrading, the unit is needed to have a free space about 350 MB. Please confirm the size from the steps below.
    • In the Home screen, tap , and then tap  Settings.
    • Tap Storage.
      Confirm the “Available” of “USB STORAGE”.
    • Confirm that the low free space notification icon does not appear on the status bar. If internal storage free space is less than 10% (approx. 100MB), system may not boot properly, or settings and application data may not be inherited properly.
    • When downloading the program and upgrading the system software, log on to the computer with the administrator name o with any name which belongs to the administrator.
    • If you are using Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 or Vista operating system, a User Account Control dialog box may be displayed. Click "Continue" or "Yes" to proceed.

    Update procedure

    • Disconnect your Walkman from PC.
    • Prepare for this update by the following steps.
    • In the Home screen, tap , and then tap  Settings - Storage.
    • Tap , then tap USB computer connection.
    • Tap USB storage to be checked.
    • Tap Connection settings, then tap USB auto connection to be unchecked.
    • The update program download is started by clicking “Download” button on the bottom of this announcement. Following the displayed dialog box, save the file in your PC.
    • Quit all software running on PC.
    • Double click the saved file, and work by following displayed massages.

    Connect your Walkman to PC, when “Connect the device to update the software.” appears. Then tap Turn on USB Storage(*1) on Walkman screen. The message appears, then tap OK.
    Note: If (*1) does not appear, swipe the status bar, tap "USB connected" on the notification panel, tap "Turn on USB storage", and then tap "OK".
    - Please do not disconnect the unit from the PC during upgrading.
    - During upgrading, USB connection is automatically controlled and “Connecting USB” indication is off with the control. Also, the USB disconnect message may appear on some computers.

    • When the message of completing upgrading is displayed, click Finish button.
    • When lock screen appears on Walkman, then drag (key mark) from left to right.
    • When the update program displays “1.23” on Walkman, tap OK.
    • Return USB auto connection enabled by the following steps.
    • In the Home screen, tap , and then tap  Settings - Storage..
    • Tap , then tap USB computer connection.
    • Tap Connection settings, and tap USB auto connection to be checked.

    After update
    Please confirm the version when the update program is installed successfully with following How to confirm the Model and the Firmware version steps.
    The update program installation is succeeded when “1.23” is shown on the screen.
