    The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following Macintosh versions:

    • Mac OS X v.10.10–10.11/macOS 10.12–10.13

    Computer Hardware

    The latest version of the system software update is compatible with the following hardware:

    • Hard drive space: 600 MB or more
    • RAM: 512 MB or more

    Other Hardware

    • Power source for the camera
      • Fully charged rechargeable battery pack (NP-FV70A) or dedicated AC adapter
    • USB cable (supplied) Type A Male to Micro-B Male Cable
      Note: Update functionality is not guaranteed with any other USB cable.

    Important notice

    • When performing the system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack (NP-FV70A) or dedicated AC adapter.
    • Do not remove the battery or AC adapter during the update. Otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
    • Remove the memory card/memory recording unit from the camera beforehand.
    • Prevent your computer from entering Sleep mode.
    • Do not connect the camera to the PC with the USB cable (supplied) until instructed.

    How to download the Updater:

    1. After reading the disclaimer, click Download.
    2. The file [Update_FDRAX700V101.dmg] file will start downloading.
    3. Save the file to the desktop of your computer (recommended).

    Install

    Step 1: Start the Updater

    1. Close all currently programs currently running on your computer.

    2. Double-click the [Update_FDRAX700V101.dmg] file you downloaded. Do not connect the camera at this point.

    3. [Update_FDRAX700V101] is expanded.

    4. Double-click the [UpdateSetting Tool] icon.

    5. To load a kernel extension, the message prompts you to allow the application to make changes. Type the password for the administrative account.
      • For macOS 11 – 12 users

        If your computer is running on macOS 11 – 12, you also need to download the System Software Update Helper. Go to the download page below,
        follow the instructions, and download the System Software Update Helper to start the updater.
        If your computer is running on another OS, follow the procedure below.

      • For macOS 10.15 users

        If your computer is running on macOS 10.15, you also need to download the Driver Loader. Go to the download page below,
        follow the instructions, and download the Driver Loader to start the updater.
        If your computer is running on another OS, follow the procedure below.

      • For macOS 10.13 users
        Once the message from the system displays, the security and privacy screen will be displayed.
        • If a system message displays, click [OK] to close.

        • Read the "Sony Corporation" system software.
          Note: If you have approved this in the past, the security and privacy screen will not be displayed.
          If the security and privacy screens remain displayed, please close the window.

        • If you are asked to restart macOS after clicking the [Allow] button, please restart and return to the beginning of the update procedure.

        • Check [Security and privacy] and click [OK].
      • For macOS 10.12 or lower, or authorised macOS 10.13 users
        The following procedure will be displayed.
        • A dialogue box for the USB connection will be displayed. Connect the camera to the PC with the USB cable (supplied) and click [OK].
        • Please enter the password to log in with the administrator account.

    6. System Software Updater starts up.

    7. Turn on the camera.

    8. Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
      Note: If the computer cannot find the camera, the message "Could not find the camera for this update." appears on the computer screen. Please try the following:
      • Disconnect the USB cable and connect it again.
      • If the computer has multiple USB terminals, try with the other terminals.

    9. Click [Next] on System Software Updater.
      At the same time, the message "Follow instructions on the computer." will appear on the LCD screen of the camera.
      Note: Do not turn off the camera until the system software update has completed.

    10. After confirming the current version on the screen, click [Next].

    11. The camera resets automatically.

    12. After resetting, the update starts.
      The progress bar appears while updating (approximately 10 minutes).
      Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.


    13. When the screen appears, press the [Finish] button and disconnect the USB cable.
      Note: Once the update is complete, please set the date and time to set the camera body power cycle.

    Step 2: Confirm the system software version of your device is Ver.1.01.

    Select [Menu] - [OTHERS] - [VERSION DISPLAY] on the camera. The system software version is displayed.

    Questions & Answers

    The update does not complete

    When the monitor remains black for more than 15 minutes, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
    2. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the camera, leave it for a few minutes, then insert the battery again or connect the AC adapter.
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Turn on the camera and perform the installation process again.
