Question

How to view the recovered 3D image files on PC or the camera used to record the image files.

Answer

Applicable software: Memory Card File Rescue 3.1.

You can view recovered 3D image files (MPO format) on the camera that recorded them by copying the files to a memory media and inserting the memory media into the camera. (Some cameras may not support displaying the images).

About recovering 3D image files

3D image files (.mpo) are sorted into folders as determined by the camera.

When recovering 3D image files, "Memory Card File Rescue" saves recovered .mpo files into a folder named MPO\xxx . (xxx will be a 3-digit number).

  1. Prepare a memory media to which the data will be copied.
Use memory media that has been formatted by the camera you are using.

    Important Note:
Copying the data back to the originally recovered memory media will overwrite data on the media, making it impossible to obtain the same recovery results should another recovery operation become necessary.
We recommend that you use a different memory media other than the one you recovered the files from.

  2. Copy the recovered 3D image files to the memory media
Copy all 3D image files (.mpo) from the MPO\xxx folder in the recovery folder into the folder for storing recorded image files, located inside the DCIM folder on the memory media.

Note: The name of the folder for storing recorded image files (for example, "100MSDCF") differs depending on the camera model. Refer to your camera's instruction manual for details.

If the memory media does not have a DCIM folder and a folder for storing recorded image files, take a picture with your camera to create them.

Here is an example for Sony cameras.

  3. Insert the memory media into the camera that was used to record, and turn the power on.
Depending on the camera, a message urging you to re-create the database files may be displayed. In such cases, re-create the files.

  4. Confirm whether the recovered 3D image files can be played back on the camera.
Depending on the camera, additional recording or similar operations to recovered memory media may not be possible.
