s part of Sony’s continued commitment towards contributing to the next generation, Sony will be supporting the South Africa Mobile Library Project again this year.
The objective of the project is to bring books to teachers and children in remote South African schools who would otherwise not have access to such learning materials.
Last year, approximately 18,000 English books were collected from Sony group companies worldwide, with close to 10,000 books collected in Singapore alone.
And now we're sending out the call again. Help the underprivileged children in South Africa by donating your new or used children's books at our Book Donation Drive from
1 July to 31 July 2010 at Sony Style - Orchard Central.
Your simple gift will make a world of difference to those who need it.
The South Africa Mobile Library Project is jointly launched by SAPESI (South Africa Primary Education Support Initiative), a non profit organisation based in the Republic of South Africa, and the South Africa Department of Education. Mr. Hasunuma, former Managing Director of Sony South Africa, established SAPESI to conduct the mobile library project in partnership with the South Africa Department of Education.
The project has been well received in the poorer regions of South Africa and so far has a fleet of 55 mobile libraries in use. This year, SAPESI plans to add another 12 vehicles to their fleet of mobile libraries.
